Expansions and Relocations
Arnold Stone recently relocated it headquarters to Forest Hill in the once vacant Sherwin Williams facility. For over 30 years, Arnold Stone has provided clients with natural stone products from its four quarry/fabrication sites. It has gained the reputation as one of the leading natural building stone quarries and fabricators in the southern United States.
Foodland grocery centers opened their doors on Mansfield Highway (Business 287) to the Forest Hill community earlier this year. The store occupies a former Fiesta store.
City leaders in Forest Hill approved the purchase of more than 10,200 square feet of a building located on California Parkway near Wichita Street for a new City Hall and Council chambers with state-of-the-art technology.
The building located at 3617 California Parkway, just to the east of the Chase Bank, will create a professional facility suitable for meetings with developers, business leaders and citizens. It will also house all administrative city services under one roof including permitting, planning, zoning, inspections, Municipal Court, Utility Billing, Code Compliance and city and fire administration. The purchase of the building, done at below fair market value, is an important piece in the economic growth of the city. It would meet the current needs of the city and provide for future growth. Included in the purchase are potential pad sites located on California Parkway near the building. Additionally, long term plans could include additional property purchases that would make the entire corner a fully functional municipal complex by locating the police and fire departments on adjacent pad sites. The facility is being paid for using 2007 bond proceeds, not general fund monies.
XTO has begun drilling on the property located at 4556 Forest Hill Circle. The permit has been issued for one well to be drilled with a frac pond. This new drill site will have economic benefits for the citizens and the City of Forest Hill.
The AEO Addition, also known as Anglin Place, has recently been platted into two lots. A warehouse for American Electro Optics, Ltd. which is a company that makes components for night vision goggles for the military, will occupy lot one. The second lot is slated for the future development of a warehouse district that can be re-platted for future developments.
A new strip center on Mansfield Highway is about to start construction and will consist of a Wash-A-Teria and four shell suites for future businesses. A re-vamp/remodel of the existing car wash located at 4118 Mansfield Highway will be included as part of the project.
La Quinta Inn & Suites opened its doors in early June. The three-story, 42,000 square foot hotel includes a meeting room conveniently located off Interstate 20.
Hampton Inn & Suites is the newest of our hotels to open in Forest Hill. The four-story, 88 room facility is located on 2.5 acres of prime real estate directly off the Forest Hill Drive/I-20 exit on the south side of the highway. It too includes several meeting rooms, an indoor swimming pool and exercise room.
In early 2009, the City of Forest Hill was named the 5th fastest growing city in Tarrant County by the Fort Worth Business Press.
The City of Forest Hill Parks Master Plan has won the American Planning Association (APA) Texas Chapter “2009 Student Project Award.” The plan, created as a partnership with students at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Urban and Public Affairs, was the first of its kind for the City. Titled “The 2020 Strategy,” the plan outlined changes and improvements to all city parks as well as created a linear park and trail system throughout the city.
