In Texas, local economic development takes a number of forms. The three primary types of local economic development organizations are:

  • Economic Development Corporations: An economic development corporation is an organization common in the United States, usually a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to promote economic development within a specific geographical area. These organizations are similar, and complementary, to Chambers of Commerce.
  • Municipalities: Local city, town, or village governments
  • Chambers of Commerce: An association of businesspersons and merchants for the promotion of commercial interests in the community.
