Here’s an update on the latest news and events taking place in Cedar Hill, Texas:


Hill continues to grow with expansions at major retail and commercial centers such as Cedar Hill Village and The Ranch at Cedar Hill. Cedar Hill Village’s 70-acre retail center is part of a master plan that includes linking the new Government Center and historic Main Street district to innovative retail, residential, office and entertainment developments.

The Ranch at Cedar Hill houses a combination of unique restaurants and shops along with office space. Phase II opened in early 2008 and includes approximately 30,000 additional square feet. The upcoming Phase III will provide another 52,000 SF of retail and office space.

Methodist Medical increased their presence in Cedar Hill last year by opening a new 25,000 SF free-standing outpatient center. In addition, CareNow and PrimaCare also expanded into Cedar Hill.


Uptown Village is Cedar Hill’s upscale lifestyle center, which had its first anniversary celebration in March 2009, and continues to open new stores regularly. The 800,00 SF lifestyle shopping venue includes Dillard’s, Barnes & Noble, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bailey’s Prime Plus, Patrizio Pizza and Vino, and some 75 additional boutique stores and six fine-dining restaurants. In addition, it was awarded the 2006 Best Real Estate Deal in Retail/Hospitality by the Dallas Business Journal.

Cedar Hill Town Center Phases I & II opened with a combined 45,000 SF of space and Phase III will add another 11,000 SF when completed. Phase IV is a combined 75,000 SF of Class-A office and retail space that opened earlier this year.

Two major hotel chains now call Cedar Hill one of their homes. La Quinta and the Holiday Inn Express have locations on Highway 67 near The Ranch at Cedar Hill.

Other News

Historic Downtown Cedar Hill and the Main Street area continue to participate in the Texas Main Street Program, offered through the Texas Historical Commission. To date, Cedar Hill has experienced reinvestment of more that $14.5 within its downtown area. Babe’s Chicken, the newest addition to the Downtown area, opened in the former City Hall building in May 2009.

Cedar Hill Economic Development is also in the process of getting City of Cedar Hill certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community through the Texas Film Commission. The certification will be an additional way to promote Cedar Hill on a national level.

The Audubon Society’s Dogwood Canyon construction is underway. The 250 acre nature sanctuary will showcase plants and animals from east and west Texas, while providing hiking trails and picnic areas for nature lovers. A children’s garden is also included in the plans.
